Jar Packing Stands Out as the Superior Packaging Solution for Incense Sticks -Nikesh Patel

Khodiyar Plastic offers plastic packing solutions for 3-inch to 5-foot incense sticks

The trend of plastic jar packing of products like incense sticks, dry sticks, sambrani and perfumes is increasing rapidly. This is much better than pouch or box packing made of paper, thin polythene and foil. In jar packing the aroma and quality of the products remain intact for a long time. Once empty, consumers can use the jar for household purposes. On the other hand, when incense sticks in paper, foil or polythene-packing are used up, people throw the packing material in the garbage. This leads to pollution and waste. Mr. Nikesh Patel, head of Khodiyar Plastic, shared in a special conversation with Sugandh India that he has been doing the business of plastic jar packing for two decades. Today he is producing jars for packing products ranging from 5 grams to several kilos for incense sticks and perfume industries. He said that plastic jars are being made in every size for premium, medium and economy segments of incense sticks, dry sticks, sambrani and camphor products. Several big names of the industry are their clients. Khodiyar Plastic manufactures jar and plastic packs for incense sticks ranging from 3 inches to 5 feet.

Nikesh Patel said in a conversation with Sugandh India that Khodiyar Plastic has been in the business of manufacturing plastic material since 2001. However, they started working in the agarbatti industry in 2007. Before this, he used to work in a diamond company and then started his own business. He said that initially, he started with providing plastic packaging solutions for the sanitary industry. Later he started jar plastic packing for the agarbatti industry. These jars are available in various sizes and segments and most of the companies across India are getting jar packing from us. He said that apart from white and black incense sticks, the trend of golden-coloured incense sticks has started and for this, all the companies prefer jar packing. In response to a question, he said that he does not make jars only for premium range products but jars are made for all ranges of products. The quality of Jar packing offered also depends on the premiumness of the incense products.

In response to a question from Sugandh India, he said that his products have no competition with box or zipper packing. The benefits of plastic jar packing are being felt by producers as well as consumers. Its biggest advantage is that the quality of the products, their burning capacity and fragrance remain intact from the first till the last stick is taken out and lit. The aroma of incense sticks lasts till the last stick. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers find it easier to handle products kept in jars. Consumers can also use the empty jars at home. If the jar gets damaged, it can be recycled. In response to a question, he said that when he made the plastic jar, initially people said it would not work. Special products can be used only on festive occasions, but now people are seeing its benefits, so it has started running throughout the year.

In response to a question, he said that we have plastic packaging solutions for three inches to five feet incense sticks. They also make pasting boxes, slider boxes and pet bottles for incense products in different sizes and lengths. On the question of stopping the use of plastic in the country— he said that packing material is prepared as per the rules and instructions set by the Government of India. We do not use sheets less than 250 microns.

We make pet bottle jars for packing incense sticks and dhoop sticks from 50 grams to 1 kilo. Then we have pasting box for 4 inch to 5 feet incense sticks. It is in the form of a sheet with lids on both ends and a sleeve in the middle. The sheet is of 250 microns. We also have slider box packing ranging from 250 to 300 microns for packing of 9 inch incense sticks of 100-250 grams. We also have jar packing for Sambrani cups from 12 cups to 32,40 cups. For camphor products we have packing from 100 grams to 500 grams. We also have PP Random bottles for perfumers for sampling and storage. These range from 4 ml to 1 litre. These are completely leak-proof.

Nikesh Patel talked about the new products that he has created for Rose World in the Diamond Pel series with rose gold caps. The diamond pel design is round in appearance, easy to handle and feels sturdy. In response to a question regarding the high cost of plastic jar packing, he said that there isn’t a drastic difference between the cost of plastic jar and that of other types of packaging like paper boxes. Moreover, Paper packing has become very expensive now, but the safety of the product in plastic jars is greater. He said that for paper packing, at least 20-25 thousand boxes have to be ordered, whereas, for jar packing, we provide a minimum 500 jars which is beneficial for small manufacturers and those that are just starting the business. With just 500 jars they can have 100s of segments. He said that there is continuous expansion in the packaging industry and the company is also working on new packing technology as per the market.
