“Hyderabad-based Lakshmi Narayan Agency, a well-known wholesale dealer of agarbattis, was established during the days of his grandfather,” informed Mr Ramu Yadav (Owner) to Sugandh India. His father started this business. Mr Yadav highlighted that the demand for jumbo packs in zipper packing is rapidly growing. Packaging sizes range from 100 grams to 400 grams. Box packing is the preferred choice among consumers. Products priced at ₹70 and above, particularly those in 200 or 400-gram packs, perform well in Zipper packaging. He further explained that premium quality products priced between ₹50 and ₹60 are the most sought-after, while only a niche segment of customers opt for more expensive premium offerings. Agarbattis priced between ₹20 and ₹50 are the most frequently sold. Economy and medium-priced segments constitute approximately 80% of the market. Premium products make up the remaining 20%.
In response to an inquiry, Mr Ramu Yadav identified several leading brands in the market, including Z Black, Mangaldeep, Cycle, Forest Fragrance, Rocket, Denim, Oriental, and Raj Fragrance. Among premium brands, Misbah, Forest, and Cycle are particularly popular. Mr Yadav clarified that he also sells his own brand. Mangaldeep and Asht Lakshmi also sell well in the dhoop segment. He observed that Rocket is the leading brand for wet incense along with Hari Darshan and Dev Darshan. Cycle, Naivedya, Aashika and GT Sambrani cups from Tamil Nadu are favoured. Swastik achieves the highest sales in camphor. Varanasi based Chandan Tika Bhawani is the most sought-after product in his shop. Mr Yadav also noted that the agarbatti market is expanding rapidly, with customers showing a strong preference for quality products. Typically, four to five out of ten customers base their purchases on brand names, though all consumers prioritise quality.
