Arihant Industries in Lucknow was established in 1986 and since then the agarbatti industry has seen a lot of changes. Responding to a question, he said that in the present situation mechanization has increased in the agarbatti industry. Earlier, from making bamboo sticks to rolling incense sticks, workers used to do the work by hand, but now everything is being done by machines. He said that the demand for incense sticks has increased in the country. In such a situation, its supply was not possible without machines. Earlier women used to work in large numbers in the industry, but now incense sticks are being made from house to house by machines.
How does he see the changes in the incense sticks industry from the past and today? On this question, he said that earlier the work of incense sticks was done only in selected places in the country, but now city-city, village-village machines have been installed.
This has improved the quality in the industry. Suppose earlier incense sticks were made for Rs 10, now they are made for Rs 3 due to machines. In such a situation, companies are spending the remaining 7 rupees on quality, aroma and packing. In this way the scope of the industry has expanded considerably. This has increased the market for good and premium products.
He told that machines have been installed in most of the villages of the country. Before 1986, there was not a single factory in Orissa. In South India, goods mainly came from Bangalore.
Today more than 500 units are functioning in Orissa. Earlier production was negligible in Bihar too, but now production is happening in village-village. Earlier there was not even a single unit in Lucknow, but now more than 25 are working and they are selling everything from making raw lights to machines. In Gujarat, incense sticks were made only in Ahmedabad, but today it is being made in all the districts. He says that it was first started in Madhya Pradesh, where production was mainly done in Sagar, Indore, Jabalpur, today it is happening in village-village.
Responding to a question by ‘Sugandh India’, he said that a new trend has developed that earlier incense sticks were made in big cities, but now in tribal areas where bamboo is available.
Big companies are setting up their units there. Earlier people used to go to cities to work, but now they have started getting work in villages only. For example, if there is bamboo in Chhattisgarh, then its cutting is being done there and lights are being made. Thus gradually Vietnam and China who were ahead in the incense sticks industry. Now India is leaving them behind. In response to a question, he said that in Raigad and Rourkela, the government has started a scheme, under which one bamboo is given to every household every day and three and a half kilograms of kadi is made from there, which is collected by local agents and given to the company. give.
There the unit is also installed and from there incense sticks are also made. Similar work is being done on a similar scale in Bastar, Surguja and North East.
Kailash Jain said that Arihant Industries has about 150 products of its own, out of which Amber Solid and Yara-Yara are the best. Masala is Jasmine powder for Batti. Dry light is made from amber solid. Earlier there was a trend of wet lights. He said that Arihant Industries has developed many new compounds, which include Blue Heaven, Compound 1675, Ambroxone Synthetic, Bela Absolute, Mogra Absolute, Bharatwasi, Vetiver Standard, Vetiver Synthetic, etc. which are used in Masala Batti. Responding to a question, he said that there is a huge shortage in the fragrance industry of raw materials. The major reason for this is that this industry has spread across the country. Big domestic and foreign companies have come. There is competition in every state. Apart from this, low cost and cheap fragrance products are also running well in the market, because ready-made essential oils are available in the market, which are in the range of Rs 300 to 500. Good companies which export and premium Valeti manufactures products in the range of their scented oils from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000.
On setting up of Standard Commission by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to check the quality of incense sticks industry, he said that it is a good step.
This will ensure quality in the industry. So that harmful things can not be used. He said that earlier incense sticks and incense were used in temples and shrines for worship and prayers, but now people also use it to refresh the mood as it has become a part of lifestyle. He told that many of his acquaintances and friends prepare such incense sticks, which are only meant for mood fresheners. A handful of people usually light candles in temples, but for freshness, incense sticks have become more popular and are available at a higher price for premium quality.
