This year, the 9-day Navratri festival will run from the Pratipada of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwini to the Navami. According to the Panchang, Sharadiya Navratri will commence on Thursday, 3rd. October, and conclude with Vijayadashami on the 12th October. The Pratipada date will begin at 12:19 AM on the Third of October and end at 2:58 AM on the Fourth of October. Therefore, we recognise the Third of October as the starting date for Navratri this year. The calculation uses the Udaya Tithi. The auspicious time for Kalash Sthapana occurs between 6:15 AM and 7:22 AM. Each year during Navratri, devotees witness Maa Durga travelling in different vehicles, which helps them determine auspicious and inauspicious times. This year, Maa will arrive in a palanquin during Sharadiya Navratri. The universal mother, Adishakti Maa Durga, receives worship in her nine separate forms. Throughout these nine days, devotees adorn Maa Durga with clothing and flowers of various colours. Astrology emphasises the importance of burning different fragrances and incense sticks for each day of Navratri. It is customary to offer a variety of fragrances to Maa Durga sandalwood, rose, jasmine, and other fragrances.
To worship Maa Durga during the nine days of Navratri, devotees should utilise sandalwood fragrance in form of incense, perfumes, and agarbattis. However other fragrances can also be used on each day.
-On the first day, dedicated to Maa Shailputri, use lavender oil, agarbatti, lavender incense, and scent.
-On the second day, for Maa Brahmacharini, offer rose perfume, agarbatti, and incense sticks.
-During the third day’s worship of Maa Chandraghanta, employ frankincense/loban perfume, incense sticks.
-For the fourth day, dedicate your offerings to Maa Kushmanda with orange perfume and the corresponding agarbatti.
-On the fifth day, when worshipping Maa Skandamata, include rose perfume, agarbatti, incense, and Attarful in your rituals.
-The sixth day is for Maa Katyayani. Peppermint oil, rose perfume, and related dhoop and agarbatti are offered to the holy mother.
-On the seventh day, when honouring Maa Kalratri, utilise eucalyptus (Nilgiri oil) and associated fragrances.
-On the eighth day, for Maa Mahagauri, offer attarful or ylang-ylang.
-Finally, on the ninth day, during the worship of Maa Siddhidatri, present patchouli oil, incense, scented agarbatti, lavender oil, and more to ensure that Maa Durga is pleased and grants the blessings you seek.
