Arihant Industries, which has been active in the fragrance sector for fourdecades, has now welcomed its third generation into the family business. Thecompany was established in 1986 by Mr. Kailash Chand Jain, who continues toserve as its CEO. Alongside him, his two sons Sandeep Jain and Bharatendu Jain,as well as his grandson Sanmat Jain (who joined after completing his MBA), arecarrying forward the company’s legacy. Each has clearly defined roles:Bharatendu oversees production, while Sandeep handles marketing andaccounts. Arihant Industries has earned a strong reputation for its expertise insynthetic fragrance creation.

The fragrances manufacturedby thecompanyare used inpan masala,tobacco,supari,incensesticks, cosmetics, and soaps. What setsthe company apart is its ability to developspecialized fragrances tailored to eachproduct category—different scents fortobacco and pan masala, different forcosmetics, different for incense sticks,and even unique perfumes for coloredgulal powders. Mr. Jain proudly claimsthat preparing fragrances for gulal is oneof their specialties, and demand for theseperfumes exists across India.

What sets the company apart is itsability to develop specialized fragrancestailored to each product category—different scents for tobacco and panmasala, different for cosmetics, differentfor incense sticks, and even uniqueperfumes for colored gulal powders.Mr. Jain proudly claims that preparingfragrances for gulal is one of theirspecialties, and demand for these perfumesexists across India.

Speaking to Sugandh India, he said:“Both we and our customers are satisfiedwith our products. We continue to receiveregular positive responses.” Accordingto him, patchouli is widely used in theirperfumes to enhance both stability andquality. Arihant Industries not onlypurchases and sells patchouli but alsoproduces it in-house. Despite the risingcosts of raw materials, Mr. Jain insiststhat the company will never compromiseon quality: “At no cost can we afford tolower the standard of our products. Whilewe specialize in synthetic fragrances,incorporating natural elements is essentialfor stability. For example, even in syntheticsandalwood, we add an appropriateproportion of natural sandalwood.”

Looking Ahead
On future plans, Mr. Jain revealed thatR&D is already underway for body spraysand room sprays, with launches expectedsoon. At present, the company offers70–80 different perfume ranges, but forpan masala and zarda, it has a specialtobacco-touch fragrance. This blend isunique because it incorporates natural andAyurvedic spices, which, once experienced,win lasting consumer loyalty.

Third-generation entrepreneurSanmat Jain, who joined the business threeyears ago after completing his MBA,shared his vision: “I want to take ourbusiness much further.” He emphasizedthat the company’s USP lies not only insupplying fragrances to the pan masalaand tobacco industry but also in being aspecialist in perfumes for herbal gulal. Withthe growing popularity of herbal gulal,Arihant provides perfumes that are skin-friendlyand 90% natural.

Sanmat sees a bright future for theperfume industry: “The future of thefragrance business lies beyond bamboosticks. Our R&D in fi ne fragranceswill soon bring unique body perfumesto the market.” Rather than copyingFrench companies, Arihant is focused ondeveloping its own exclusive fragrancerange that evokes a distinct feeling themoment someone smells it. “Our upcomingbody sprays will bring something entirelynew to the market. The fragrancewill be unique, and when people smellit, they should instantly recall our brand,”he said.

Currently, Arihant supplies itsperfumes to other fragrance manufacturersas well, but the company’s main focusremains on innovation and creating a freshexperience for customers.
