Industry Facing the Challenge of Inflation – Birju Shah

Sharing his views with Sugandh India, Birju Shah, head of Sanjay Chemical Works Unit-B, Gujarat, said that it has become very difficult for new manufacturers in the agarbatti industry to survive in the market. To aid manufacturers n such times our efforts are to supply good quality fragrances to them at low prices. However, this is only a minor part of the whole process as the prices of other raw materials are very high. He said that the situation has arisen due to the increase in the prices of raw materials all over the world and there is a financial crunch as well. As of now, there is no visible improvement in it. Commenting on the the future of Dhoop Agarbatti and Fragrance industry, he said that it is hard to say anything as of now and we are just keeping a watch.

Birju Shah has been working in the chemical industry since 1990. Sharing his views regarding the industry he told Sugandh India that despite the festival season, the market is slow. Especially the survival of new companies in the industry seems difficult. This has also led to decreased consumption of frasgrances and chemicals.

He said that due to stiff competition, the industry always needed better quality raw material and fragrances, but for good quality the price must be kept high. And thats where we come in with fragrance options for the agarbatti manufacturers that are of best quality and yet lower price.

Birju  Bhai told that his company supplies fragrances across the country to various manufacturers.Talking about dhoop and agarbatti industry, he said that there has been a decrease in the demand for fragrances in the industry along with a decrease in the production of raw batti as well. Due to this not just small manufacturers but even big branded companies are not able to increase the rates despite the high cost. Instead of increasing the price, they have reduced the weight or number of sticks in the agarbatti packets, but things are still difficult.

On the question regarding what’s new in the industry, he said that there is nothing new as such. Due to the increase of mosquito problem, the demand for mosquito killer agarbattis has soared.

Sharing how he came into the fragrance industry, he said that after completing his studies, he joined his family business, which was started by his grandfather.  He has inherited the knowledge of fragrances from his family and is taking it forward.

In response to a question, he said that Sanjay Chemical works (unit-b) manufactures 550 kinds of fragrances and flavours. The company has now also expanded to soap and cosmetic industry and is supplying them with perfumes. For agarbatti industry he has a wide variety of fruity, floral, perfume and traditional fragrances. Whichever fragrance the manufacturer needs, we have it. We supply fragrances directly to big companies and have other customers through our distributors as well.

On future plans, he said that the company is soon going to launch a high range of premium fragrances. It will belong to the premium segment, which will be supplied to manufacturers of various industries.

Birju bhai told that all types of fragrances are in demand in the market and the company is always working to innovate and bring new fragrance for its clients as per the demand and trends.
