Demand for Bamboo less Increasing in Asansol: Miran Alam, Mysore Sugandh, Asansol

Iran Alam, head of MysoreSugandh Firm in Asansol, sharedin a conversation with SugandhIndia magazine that the marketfor bamboo-less products suchas wet dhoop, dry sticks, andsambrani cups is growing rapidly inthe region. He said that his fatherstarted the agarbatti business in1990. At that time, on the adviceof Mintu Bhai of Shree GuruPerfumery Works, Kolkata, hisfather entered the agarbatti trade.Mysore Sugandh holds the agenciesof brands such as Forest, KarnatakaFragrances, Charu, Amrita, andJesal. Apart from this, they alsokeep products of major brands likeZed Black and ITC Mangaldeep attheir counter.

 

Iran Alam further stated thatunder their agency network,they have a local supply systemin Asansol and Burnpur. InAsansol, the entire distributionof agarbatti and dhoopproducts operates from Ganja Gali. Respondingto a question about the best-selling products,he said that although all products sell well inthe region, brands like Balaji, Amrutha, Forest,Zed Black, and ITC have a strong position.Pouches, zipper packs, and boxes are all indemand. He mentioned that 450-gram pouchessell significantly. In addition, ₹20 pouchesand 80–90 gram packs priced at ₹50 are verypopular.

 

Responding to another question, he saidthat in dhoop, Mangaldeep, Bansi, and Forestproducts sell well at their outlet, but in theoverall market, Manthan is the top-sellingbrand. He also noted that in Asansol, 8 out of 10customers purchase products by brand name.
