Demand for Bamboo less Increasing in Asansol: Miran Alam, Mysore Sugandh, Asansol

Iran Alam, head of Mysore Sugandh Firm in Asansol, shared in a conversation with Sugandh India magazine that the market for bamboo-less products such as wet dhoop, dry sticks, and sambrani cups is growing rapidly in the region. He said that his father started the agarbatti business in 1990. At that time, on the advice of Mintu Bhai of Shree Guru Perfumery Works, Kolkata, his father entered the agarbatti trade. Mysore Sugandh holds the agencies of brands such as Forest, Karnataka Fragrances, Charu, Amrita, and Jesal. Apart from this, they also keep products of major brands like Zed Black and ITC Mangaldeep at their counter.
Iran Alam further stated that thatunder their agency network, they have a local supply system in Asansol and Burnpur. In Asansol, the entire distribution of agarbatti and dhup products operates from Ganja Gali. Responding to a question about the best-selling products, he said that although all products sell well in the region, brands like Balaji, Amrutha, Forest, Zed Black, and ITC have a strong position. Pouches, zipper packs, and boxes are all in demand. He mentioned that 450-gram pouches sell significantly. In addition, ₹20 pouches and 80–90 gram packs priced at ₹50 are very popular.
Responding to another question, he said that in dhoop, Mangaldeep, Bansi, and Forestproducts sell well at their outlet, but in the overall market, Manthan is the top-selling brand. He also noted that in Asansol, 8 out of 10 customers purchase products by brand name.
