Mr. Rajendra Mehta, head of Mehta Trading Company in Koregaon, has been dealing exclusively in Thakral Group products for the past 30 years. Speaking to Sugandh India, he said that the trust, quality, and reliability of Thakral Group’s Big Safari and RKT brand, along with the courteous nature and professional conduct of the company’s owners and management, have never given him a reason to consider working with any other company. Mr Rajendra said, “Earlier, I used to deal with products from a few companies, but eventually I stopped working with all of them and now I deal only in Big Safari and RKT products.” Replying to a question, he said that the agarbatti market remains slow during the summer season. Business picks up significantly during the festive season.
Replying to another question from Sugandh India, Mr Rajendra said that although agarbatti sells throughout the year in Koregaon, demand rises sharply during the festive season. He explained that the local market consists of 70% agarbatti and 30% dhoop products. Dhoop products witness their highest sales during festivals. In recent years, the dhoop market has also been steadily expanding. Agarbatti products priced at MRP ₹10, ₹50, and ₹100 have good sales here, but the largest demand is for the ₹50 MRP segment. He added that RKT performs exceptionally well in zipper packs. N-Joy is also a highly successful brand, with tremendous demand for jar-packed dry sticks.
He further told Sugandh India that the company constantly introduces new fragrances and product innovations, which are greatly appreciated by consumers. According to him, products from other companies are also available in the market, but their only real competition is Zed Black. Zed Black’s ₹50 three-in-one pouch sells well in this region. Apart from that, Gujarat-based Skyora Agarbatti also enjoys a decent market here. Brands from Bengaluru have only a limited presence. He said that the camphor market is strong in this area. Among camphor products, Sangli’s 909 brand records the highest sales, while for sandalwood, they stock Manohar.
Replying to another question, he said that seven out of every ten customers purchase by brand name. Speaking about his relationship with Thakral Group, he said that the company supplies products directly to him, and whenever any issue arises, the management—even Bharat Bhai himself—is available over the phone to resolve it promptly. Besides this, the Thakral Group team also visits regularly, but here, it is Big Safari and RKT that truly sell by name.
