IIT INDORE HOSTS FRAGRANCE & FLAVOUR WORKSHOPWITH FFDC, FAFAI, SUGANDH VYAPARSANGH AND BIS

In a significant step towardsstrengthening the fragranceand flavour ecosystem inCentral India, the IndianInstitute of TechnologyIndore (IIT Indore) hosteda one-day workshop on12 February 2026 at its campus,focusing on the prospects ofthe fragrance and flavour sectorin Madhya Pradesh. The eventwas organised in collaborationwith Fragrance and FlavourDevelopment Centre (FFDC),Kannauj; the Fragrance &FlavourAssociation of India (FAFAI),Mumbai; Sugandh Vyapar Sangh;and the Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS).

The workshop, titled “Prospects ofFragrance and Flavour in MadhyaPradesh,” aimed to promoteindustry–academia collaborationand explore emerging opportunitiesin the fragrance and flavoursector. The programme broughttogether experts, industry leaders,academicians and students todeliberate on innovation, researchand market development in thesector.

 

The event was conducted under theguidance and vision of Prof. SuhasS. Joshi, Director, IIT Indore, alongwith the institute’s distinguishedteam of deans and faculty members.The workshop featured an eminentpanel of speakers, including Prof.Debyan Sarkar, IIT Indore and InchargeCRDT; Prof. Abhirup Dutta,Dean Research & Development; andProf. Sandeep Chaudhary, DeanAdministration.

 

Industry and institutionalperspectives were shared byMr. Shakti Vinay Shukla,Director, and Dr. NadeemAkbar, Deputy Director,FFDC Kannauj, whohighlighted the role ofFFDC in skill development,entrepreneurship andtechnology transfer inthe fragrance and flavourdomain.

Yogesh Dubey,President, FAFAI, spokeabout the growth potentialof the Indian fragranceand flavour industry andthe need to create strongmanufacturing and exporthubs in emerging regionssuch as Madhya Pradesh.Ashish Jhunjhunwala,Vice President, FAFAI,emphasised the importanceof collaboration betweenresearch institutions and industryto foster innovation and globalcompetitiveness. Other keycontributors included Dr. MajidA. Gannie and Dr. Rohit Seth,President, Sugandh Vyapar Sangh,who discussed market trends,supply chain dynamics and thegrowing demand for natural andsustainable ingredients.

 

The workshop also witnessedstrategic inputs from industryand association leaders, focusingon policy support, industrynetworking, standardisation andskill development to support thelong-term growth of the sector.The programme was excellentlycoordinated by Dr. HarshaUpadhyay, ensuring activeparticipation and interactionamong attendees. The vote ofthanks was delivered by Prof. PawanKumar Kankar, Associate Dean(Administration), IIT Indore.More than 100 participants,comprising students, facultymembers and local industrydelegates, attended the event. Theworkshop served as an importantplatform to explore opportunitiesin manufacturing, research,startups and entrepreneurshipin the fragrance and flavoursector, particularly in the contextof Madhya Pradesh’s growingindustrial ecosystem.

 

The organisers expressedconfidence that such collaborativeinitiatives will pave the way forskill development, innovation andsustainable growth, positioning theregion as an emerging hub for thefragrance and flavour industry inIndia.
