IIT INDORE HOSTS FRAGRANCE & FLAVOUR WORKSHOPWITH FFDC, FAFAI, SUGANDH VYAPARSANGH AND BIS

In a significant step towards strengthening the fragrance and flavor ecosystem in Central India, the Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) hosted a one-day workshop on 12 February 2026 at its campus, focusing on the prospects of the fragrance and flavor sector in Madhya Pradesh. The event was organized in collaboration with the Fragrance and Flavor Development Centre (FFDC), Kannauj; the Fragrance & Flavour Association of India (FAFAI), Mumbai; Sugandh Vyapar Sangh; and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The workshop, titled “Prospects of Fragrance and Flavor in Madhya Pradesh,” aimed to promote industry–academia collaboration and explore emerging opportunities in the fragrance and flavor sector. The program brought together experts, industry leaders, academicians, and students to deliberate on innovation, research, and market development in the sector.
The event was conducted under the guidance and vision of Prof. Suhas S. Joshi, Director, IIT Indore, along with the institute’s distinguished team of deans and faculty members. The workshop featured an eminent panel of speakers, including Prof. Debyan Sarkar, IIT Indore and Incharge CRDT; Prof. Abhirup Dutta, Dean of Research & Development; and Prof. Sandeep Chaudhary, Dean of Administration.
Industry and institutional perspectives were shared by Mr. Shakti Vinay Shukla, Director, and Dr. Nadeem Akbar, Deputy Director, FFDC Kannauj, who highlighted the role of FFDC in skill development, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer in the fragrance and flavor domain.
Yogesh Dubey, President, FAFAI, spoke about the growth potential of the Indian fragrance and flavor industry and the need to create strong manufacturing and export hubs in emerging regions such as Madhya Pradesh. Ashish Jhunjhunwala, Vice President, FAFAI, emphasized the importance of collaboration between research institutions and industry to foster innovation and global competitiveness. Other key contributors included Dr. Majid A. Gannie and Dr. Rohit Seth, President, Sugandh Vyapar Sangh, who discussed market trends, supply chain dynamics, and the growing demand for natural and sustainable ingredients.
The workshop also witnessed strategic inputs from industry and association leaders, focusing on policy support, industry networking, standardization, and skill development to support the long-term growth of the sector. The program was excellently excellentlycoordinated by Dr. Harsha Upadhyay, ensuring active participation and interaction among attendees. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Pawan Kumar Kankar, Associate Dean (Administration), IIT Indore. More than 100 participants, comprising students, faculty members, and local industry delegates, attended the event. The workshop served as an important platform to explore opportunities in manufacturing, research, startups, and entrepreneurship in the fragrance and flavor sector, particularly in the context of Madhya Pradesh’s growing industrial ecosystem.
The organizers expressed confidence that such collaborative initiatives will pave the way for skill development, innovation, and sustainable growth, positioning the region as an emerging hub for the fragrance and flavor industry in India.
